My 19 year old child has been terminated from her employment due to charges of retail fraud?

The amout as I understand will range from $600.00 to $1200.00. What can I expect as far as prosecution. The employer has already turned the case over to the prosecutor and there was a police report filed. Should we get an attorney? Is there any way to keep this off my childs permanent record? What is she required to divulge to potential employers in the future? This is a good child, in college, who has never done anything in the past, no priors of any kind what so ever. I have no experience with any trouble of this sort.
