What should I bring on a ship?

Your best best is to keep all of your uniforms and a few pairs of civilian clothes and maybe one or two electronic devices at best. If you are going to be living on your ship then you will have lvery little space. especially on a DDG. Everything you own will need to fit into your rack and stand up locker.
