Is this weird or ok in the workplace?

Lets say you say hi to someone in the morning who works in a different part of your workplace. If you see them 3 times in the next 8 hours just ping by in the hall, is it ok to say "sup" or hey" 3 times or is that too much? I'm asking because I feel awkward just ping someone without saying something. What do you guys think?
