Can someone please tell me what this song means?

It's the John Cougar song ( before he added the Mellencamp ) about the page of rites and growing up. It is trying to portray young love at it's best and most innocent. Jack is trying to get his rocks off with Diane for the first time and she is unsure where it will lead to. I think he knobs her in the end and she regrets it.
